Turned Away At The Dilley Voting Booth? How to Make Sure It Doesn’t Happen This Year

It’s an annual tradition: the Dilley city election ends- confusion runs rampant about who was allowed to vote, who wasn’t, and why.

This year, be sure to know your rights and eligibility before it’s time to vote. You have until April 5th to get your registration in order for this year’s city election.

These are the two questions to focus on:

IS MY VOTER REGISTRATION CURRENT?

To be sure that you are registered to vote and that your voter registration is current, visit the Texas Secretary of State “Am I Registered to Vote?” site:

https://teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do

  • If your voter status is “active,” and the county is “Frio,” proceed to the next question.
      • If your voter status is “suspense” or no results are found at all, contact the Frio Election Administrator at:
        Frio Election Administrator
        Carlos Segura
        830-334-3975

Note: If your status says “suspense,” you are actually allowed to vote anyway. However, it is still recommended to update this status to avoid issues and misunderstandings on election day.

      • Likewise, if you are registered in another county but have moved to Frio, the Frio Election Administrator can update your registration.

If you have trouble navigating the Texas Secretary of State website on your phone and don’t have a computer, the Dilley Public Library offers computer use free of charge.

CAN I VOTE IN THE DILLEY CITY ELECTION?

Your driver’s license or mailing address says “Dilley.” But this doesn’t necessarily mean you can vote in the Dilley city election. You must be registered in incorporated areas of Dilley.

To check if you are eligible to vote in the Dilley city election, take a look at your voter registration card:

      • If you have a box labeled “CITY” containing a letter “D”, you are eligible to vote in the Dilley city election.

      • If you do not have this box labeled “CITY,” you are not eligible to vote in the Dilley city election. If you believe there is an error with your city eligibility, contact the Frio Election Administrator at:
        Frio Election Administrator
        Carlos Segura
        830-334-3975

If you have lost your voter registration card, you may contact the Frio Election Administrator for this information as well.

DEADLINE

If you wait until election day to sort these issues out, you’re too late. The absolute deadline is April 5th, but it is recommended to start as soon as possible.

City Election Day is May 5th, 2018.
